How to keep your home safe from fire
One devastating item that can totally destroy a home is fire.
There are many people that have lost their home due to a terrible fire that could have been prevented.
There are so many things that can cause a fire in our home that we have to make sure that we do a double check of some things in order to protect our home.
Candles are a good cause for any home to catch on fire. If they are unsupervised while lit, they can totally destroy a home. If you are going to light a candle in your home for fragrance or a lighting feature, you should make sure that it is in the same room with you. Also keep it away from curtains and anything flammable. You should also never burn a candle that is very low on wax. If it is in a glass container, it could cause the glass to get too hot and burst.
You should also make sure that you are unplugging your counter appliances when you are done using them. This is especially true for your coffee pot, toaster oven and toaster. There are many circumstances when you think it is off, or they are accidentally bumped and turned on. You need to be careful with these items. Also keep them away from anything on the counter that may be flammable.
If you have pets in the home, make sure that you are checking your cords on lamps and other electrical appliances. Sometimes pets like to chew on them and this could be a potentially dangerous thing if it is left unattended. Also make sure that they cannot knock these items down if they are running or playing in the home. It is easy to bump a table and knock over a lamp that is on and this could be dangerous.
Parents should teach their children not to play with fire. This means lighters, matches and anything else that may light the house on fire. You should also tell them not to mess around with the stove or any other electrical appliance when you are not home. It will only take a second for something to ignite and go wrong while they are cooking.
Always have smoke alarms and fire extinguishers throughout the home. These are great devices to have in order to protect you and your home from a potentially fatal fire that can happen at any moment in your home.
